The PCI standard bus architecture born around 1990 at the Intel's laboratories and since the middle of the '90s became the new standard for the communication between hardware devices and PCs. The original technical specification has been upgraded during the years to satisfy the needs of a more demanding market. So in 2004 a new serial PCI standard born, called PCI Express, replacing the old Conventional PCI in all applications. The world of experimental physics is now trying to take advantage of this common architecture and CAEN offers this solution in particular for Controllers and ADCs.
